Comedian Mariachi arrested for assaulting traffic officer, tearing uniform

Police in Kampala has arrested  Charles Kasozi , a comedian also known as Mariachi together with his ‘bodyguard’ Michael Bunjo for allegedly assaulting a traffic police officer.
It is alleged that at around 8PM on Saturday at Mengo, the duo beat up police constable Eldard Kamugisha attached to Old Kampala Police Station.
“They were stopped while driving in the opposite direction of a one way lane and cautioned on the offence but refused to heed to directives by our traffic officers,” said Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire.
“They were asked to reverse and use the right lane but refused.”
It is also alleged that when the traffic officer requested for comedian’s driving permit, the duo got out of the vehicle assaulting the  him before tearing his uniform in the scuffle that ensued.
The traffic police officer had to call for help from colleagues before the duo was arrested.
Mariachi and his co accused are  currently detained at Old Kampala Police Station vide SD reference 63/30/06/2018 and  are set be charged with four counts of careless driving, obstructing an officer on lawful duty, causing damage to government stores and assault.
The incident comes a few months after a traffic officer attached to Old Kampala was knocked dead by a bus in Mengo.
