President Yoweri Musveni has said that the organisers of the recently launched Miss Curvy Uganda could have been compelled by the appreciation and popularity awarded to the Miss Uganda/Miss World pageants that birthed and popularised Quiin Abenakyo.  Museveni was speaking at a press briefing following the 6th round of the annual Presidential Investor’s Roundtable meeting at State House Entebbe on Thursday.  Museveni who asked for leniency and understanding towards the organisers from several Ugandans, said that the proprietor of the Pageant, a one Ms Annie Mungoma must have thought that if beauty is good in reference to Miss Uganda and Miss World, then structure (curves) could as well be.  “We should talk silently and sympathetically to these young people; they must have thought if beauty is good how about structural beauty (curves). I suspect this was their simple way of thinking,” he said.  “We may have made a mistake to appreciate Ms World Africa (Quiin Abenakyo) resulting into the Miss Curves. How do we explain why Nalulungi ( Beauty Queen) is alright and Nabitege (another physical attribute) is wrong? I suspect when Abenakyo won beauty contest, Mungooma (Miss Curvy CEO) said if beauty is selling point for the world, why not us (the curvy)? We should talk to them and advise quietly.”  “We were encouraging Abenakyo to market Uganda and we were right. What we should ask is, should our children be involved in exploitative appearance?” Museveni posed.  Meanwhile the Roundtable meeting attracted representatives of Government agencies and departments, international and local private sector representatives in sectors of Tourism, Agriculture, Minerals, oil and Gas and Transport. Museveni said the Presidential Investor’s Roundtable is a very useful forum where he freely consults on workable solutions that help improve Uganda’s competitiveness in the world economy.  The meeting resolved to reduce the cost of electricity for manufacturing from 8cents per unit to as low as 5cents for big, medium and small enterprises.
