Mother of XXXTentacion’s son gives first interview

Written by on February 27, 2019

The mother of XXXTentacion’s son, Gekyume Onfroy, has broken her silence about the late rapper’s offspring. In an exclusive interview with South Florida’s WPLG Local 10, posted last night (Feb. 25), Jenesis Sanchez talks about her relationship with the late 2017 XXL Freshman and how X came up with his son’s name.
“He took a couple of letters from these different characters from his favorite video game, Kingdom Hearts, and he just mashed them all together,” Sanchez says with Baby ‘Yume cradled in her arms. “I know it’s kind of hard to say Gekyume, but he goes by ‘Yume as well.”
Elsewhere in the interview, which reportedly took place a few days after Gekyume was born, Sanchez reveals that she had planned to give birth to the baby in her home, but she was forced to go to the hospital to have an emergency C-section.
“The original plan was to have a home birth, but it didn’t really work out,” Sanchez explains. “At this point, we’re at 26 hours in labor. And they were, like, ‘I’m sorry. We’re going to have to do an emergency C-section.'”
Sanchez also confirmed that X picked Gekyume’s name just two weeks before he was murdered in Deerfield Beach, Fla. in June of 2018. The late rapper’s girlfriend welcomed their son ‘Yume into the world last month on Jan. 26, which is three days after the slain rapper would’ve turned 21. On the night of his birth, X’s mother, Cleopatra Bernard, posted a brown baby emoji to her Instagram story and simply wrote, “Yume has officially arrived.”
Prior to this interview with Jenesis Sanchez, Cleopatra had only given fans of the late rapper a brief peek at her grandson, Gekyume Onfroy. Earlier today (Feb. 26), Cleo posted a full-body photo of the month-old infant on Instagram and officially dubbed him “Prince Yume.”
