URA tells Bobi Wine to pay Shs 54 million or face jail

Written by on March 1, 2019

Uganda Revenue Authority has given Robert Kyagulanyi (aka Bobi Wine), seven days to clear tax arrears amounting to Shs 54 million or face jail.
The arrears are in respect to property tax on his buildings: Magere House , One Love Beach at Busabaala and Ssemakokiro building at Kamwokya.
The notice said the arrears have accumulated since 2008.
Ian Rumanyika of URA said he was still verifying the authenticity of the reports. However, we understand that the MP has had a long running row with URA over the arrears.
The timing of the latest notice will not escape scrutiny given the polarised nature of our society. Only last month, Kyagulanyi declared that he will run for president in 2021.
Our attempts to reach Kyagulanyi were futile as he is still in Tanzania where he went to address a gathering of university students.
