CAFÉ JAVAS LAUNCHES CJ’S KYAMBOGO RUN

Mothers to preterm babies now have cause for hope. This after Mandela Group of Companies through their franchise Café Javas partnering with Beyond Sports Organization and Kyambogo University to launch the CJ’s Kyambogo Run that aims at promoting maternal health especially neonatal healthcare by purchasing equipment or suppliers to one of the four health centers in Kampala under Kampala Capital City Authority management through KCCA Public Health and Environment  Department.

Speaking press at the launch of the event at the Café Javas offices at City Oil Kamwokya on Thursday morning,  Chief Runner Prince David Kintu Wassajja applauded the noble cause saying it was timely to raise money for the premature babies. Wassajja expressed pleasure at being part of the initiative and specifically praised Café Javas for always running to the help of the those in need.  He urged the public to be part of this cause by buying tickets to be part of the event or contribute towards it.

According to the reports, 15 million babies are born preterm accounting for one in every 10 every babies produced wordwide. In Uganda alone, the figures range between 13-14% pre term babies however, it is  on record that neo natal deaths contribute to at least 50% of the mortality rates among children below the age of 5 years.

Slated for Sunday,  1st September, 2019, the 3rd and 2019 edition, the run is in response to the ever increasing media reports on premature babies dying in hospitals around Kampala. The run that kicks off at 7am at the Kyamboga Cricket Oval, will cater for 21km, 10km and 5km runners targeting 1,000 participants.  Registration fee is 20,000UGX and tickets can be purchased at Café Javas and City Tyre outlets around Kampala. The guest of honor will be the South African High Commissioner Prof. Maj. Gen(Rtd) Lekoa Solly Mollo. All proceeds from the run will go towards equipping hospitals with equipment to treat pre term babies.
