7 dead, as Taxi crashes into Mini Bus; Man survives death for stealing from dead

Seven people have been confirmed dead and at least 10 badly injured following an accident involving a commuter taxi Registration Number UAV, 157 and a Mini Bus (Coaster) UAT 805F.   The accident happened at Namasoga Village, in Iganga Disrict along the Iganga- Jinja highway when the commuter taxi which was coming from Jinja to Iganga crushed into the mini bus headed to the opposite direction.  “People are badly injured, their hands and legs are broken, they are in terrible condition,” one of the eye witnesses said.  The accident occurred on Wednesday night at around 10.30pm, the Iganga traffic police officer, Rogers Nandege, said on Thursday.  He identified the deceased as Faridi Kange Matende, 32, Aggrey Baliluno, 26 and Baker Kange, 29, a resident of Bulanga Village.  Others are Amina Mutesi, Abubaker Bogere, the driver of the coaster and Ahmed Maganda.  “The accident occurred when taxi registration number UAV 157E that was coming from Iganga collided head-on with an omnibus registration number No UAT 805F that was coming from Jinja,” Mr Nandege said.  Meanwhile a one Yasiin Nyombi is reported to have survived death after a crowd of witnesses at the accident scene pounced on him and pummelled him to near death for trying to steal money from a dead passenger.  A US National Sarah Giroux, who survived an accident along the same road  in 2016 complained that people who had turned up to help them instead robbed them clean and left them to die.
