Director James Cameron Says Avatar 2 Has Finished Filming And Gives Update On Avatar 3

Written by on September 28, 2020

Filming of Avatar 2 is complete according to director James Cameron while the filming on the live-action segments for Avatar 3 is also nearing completion.

“The day we deliver Avatar 2, we’ll just start working on finishing Avatar 3,” Cameron said. “So, where we are right now, I’m down in New Zealand shooting. We’re shooting the remainder of the live-action. We’ve got about 10-percent left to go. We’re 100-percent complete on Avatar 2, and we’re sort of 95-percent complete on Avatar 3,” he added.

The first installment, Avatar, was released on December 18, 2009, and became the second highest-grossing film of all-time. 20th Century Fox then announced that the first installment would be followed by a series of other movies. In 2018, James Cameron confirmed that the filming for the principal cast had wrapped but there was some other filming that needed to be done.

Even though filming is complete on Avatar 2 and near-complete on Avatar 3, it is expected that the soonest any of the movies will be released is 2022, owing to the fact that the COVID-19 pandemic caused the postponement of many movies.
